Ms Haylene Grogran
I commenced my working life and career in the community-controlled health sector in Cairns at Wuchopperen Aboriginal Medical Service – initially as a receptionist then as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker. My experience in Wuchopperen laid the foundation for me to pursue a career in nursing and midwifery. After almost a decade in nursing, I had the fortunate opportunity to gain exposure in the broader public service through an Executive Development Program.
I now have almost 27 years experience in the public service (mostly in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health or affairs), including 6 years in the Federal health system. Prior to my Australian Government experience, I had 18 years experience in the Queensland Government at various levels (16 of those years within health) and have studied at Masters level in both Aboriginal studies as well as public administration.
My career has encompassed positions in service delivery (both administrative and clinical), policy development and program implementation. I returned to Queensland Health toward the end of 2007 as Senior Director of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Branch.
